Get involved

How clubs work.

Support Builders Club as a member, sponsor or partner.

Committed young students are important to starting a Builders Club — and helping it thrive. So are dedicated adults. Kiwanis clubs that sponsor a Builders Club support the creation of the club and its ongoing activities by paying its fees, providing a volunteer to work with Builders Club, and engaging with the Builders Club’s advisors, officers and members. Some Builders Clubs are also cosponsored by a local Key Club (high school/secondary school students) or Circle K International club (university/college students). In addition, nonprofit organizations, government agencies and businesses are important partners. They offer places where students conduct service projects, and they can donate supplies and financial support, carry out fundraisers and service projects together, and provide guest speakers.

What does interest in engaging look like? You might notice members begin to:

  • Show eagerness to engage with each other and build relationships.
  • Become more and more approachable to others because of their interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate more effectively in personal conversations and small groups.
  • Work out conflict together with minimal help from advisors.
  • Show confidence when engaging with people outside of the club, including school and community leaders.

How can you support members in exercising their interest to engage?

  • Engage members in recruiting peers to get involved in service.
  • Encourage the club officers to include fellowship time at every meeting, using “icebreaker” activities to promote interaction.
  • Set aside time for educating the members on core skills, such as proper introductions, active listening and social interactions.
  • Pat attention and show appreciation to members who exhibit a high degree of excellence in social skills.
  • Provide opportunities for club members to interact with adult leaders and parents in ways that allow them to practice social skills.

Ways to Get Involved

Host a club

Engage your students and community by starting a Builders Club in your school, youth organization or other place where youth age 12-14 gather. All the resources needed to get the club going are at your fingertips.

Become a sponsor or cosponsor

Builders Clubs usually have a sponsoring Kiwanis club, which pays its fees, provides a Kiwanis volunteer to advise, and invites Builders Club members to participate in activities. A Key Club or Circle K International club can also cosponsor a Builders Club.

Become a faculty advisor

If your school or organization believes in youth leadership, service and community engagement, learn how to start a Builders Club! You can serve as the club’s faculty advisor, creating opportunities for your middle school/junior high students to grow and become service leaders in your community.

Become a Kiwanis advisor

If your Kiwanis club sponsors a Builders Club, you can serve as its Kiwanis advisor. Working with the faculty advisor, you will support activities and connect Builders Club to your Kiwanis club. If your Kiwanis club isn’t a Builders Club sponsor, help it start a Builders Club today in your community.

Become a local Builders Club partner

Each Builders Club needs local nonprofits, government agencies and businesses as partners — to offer resources, volunteers who carry out service with the club and places where the club contributes to causes.
