As we approach the deadline for 2025 awards and contests, see how some of last year’s awardees for Builders Club Distinguished Advisor and Distinguished Officer were recognized. For each of the winners named below, the accompanying remarks were made by people who nominated them for their care, mentoring and empowerment of members and officers:

Suzanne Croke, faculty advisor of St. Mary’s Builders Club in Sycamore, Illinois, U.S.

“Some of our projects may be above one’s skill level, but she is always there to guide them through the process. This has allowed the members to step out of their comfort zone and make them realize that they can achieve things in life with hard work and perseverance.”

Teresa Hollar, faculty advisor of Heir Force Community School in Lima, Ohio, U.S.

“She is constantly working to provide opportunities for collaboration that involves club members and officers in the decision-making process.”

Jonathan Shade, faculty advisor of La Cañada High School 7/8 Builders Club in Flintridge, California, U.S.

“Came in as an advisor last year, not knowing anything about Kiwanis or Builders Club. He immediately got up to speed and started reading about how he could best bring back a club that had been dormant for many years. He breathed new life into this club and expanded it to a strong and vital one today.”

Student members who are club officers were also nominated for going the extra mile. Here are some of the nominees, with their nominators’ remarks:

Claire, treasurer of Lewiston-Porter Builders Club in Youngstown, New York, U.S.

“She makes sure everyone feels welcome and valued. She encourages newer members to get involved and helps them with their initiatives.”

Lina, secretary of University Preparation Charter School in Camarillo, California, U.S.

“In many instances, members of our club have needed direction on their committee assignment or what they needed to do. When this happens, Lina always gives them something to do so that they know they too are making a difference.”

Logan, president of Merritt Brown Middle School Builders Club in Panama City, Florida, U.S.

“Merritt Brown Builders Club has been girl-run. But Logan recruited young men to join. We had as many boys as girls for the first time.”

Remember, if you have an outstanding club advisor or officer, nominate them for a Distinguished Award. Download the Builders Club Awards and Contests Guide for information about these awards and how to apply. Or go to our awards and contests webpage.
